How to play Will o’ the Wisp Solitaire

Learn the layout, legal moves and winning objective, then use the practical strategy notes to make stronger decisions from the opening deal.

Will o’ the Wisp Solitaire at a glance

A small Spider board with seven equal columns, hidden cards, and four suits to untangle.

Each column begins with the same three-card depth, unlike Spiderette's staircase. Use the early reveals to make same-suit groups, because four full stock rows and a short final deal can bury useful cards.

Rules and objective

  1. Seven columns start with three cards each, only their top cards face up. The stock holds 31 cards.
  2. Build down regardless of suit. Only descending same-suit runs move together.
  3. Any card or valid group fills an empty column. Hidden cards flip when uncovered.
  4. Fill every column before drawing. The stock supplies four full rows and then three cards to the first three columns, with no redeals.
  5. Finish four same-suit King-to-Ace runs to win. Completed runs are removed automatically.

The table enforces legal moves and saves the current deal in this browser. Hints identify a move that is available now; they do not guarantee that the deal can still be won.

Strategy: how to play better

First priority

Keep same-suit sequences together so stock deals leave fewer pieces to untangle.

Build same-suit mobility

Mixed suits can build by rank, but only same-suit descending groups move together. Join matching suits whenever it will free a covered card.

Watch the last three cards

After four complete row deals, the stock places only three cards on the first three columns. Prepare those columns before the final draw.

Frequently asked questions

What happens on the last stock deal?

After four full seven-card rows, the remaining three cards go to the first three columns.

Can I leave an empty column before dealing?

No. Place a card or legal same-suit run in every column before tapping the stock.
