FreeCell is the classic patience card game where skill beats luck. With four free cell storage slots and a full 52-card deck all dealt face-up, almost every deal is solvable — it just takes strategy.

Unlike Klondike Solitaire, FreeCell shows you all 52 cards from the start. There are no hidden surprises — every deal is essentially a puzzle to be solved. Over 99% of all FreeCell deals are winnable with the right moves.

How to Play FreeCell

• The tableau: 8 columns. The first 4 columns each start with 7 cards; the last 4 start with 6. All cards are face-up from the beginning.
• Free cells: 4 empty slots in the top-left. Each can hold exactly one card at a time. They act as temporary storage.
• Foundations: 4 slots in the top-right. Build each from Ace up to King by suit (clubs, hearts, spades, diamonds).
• Moving a single card: Move any single card to a free cell, to a foundation (if the rank and suit match), or to a tableau column (must be alternating color and one rank lower than the target card, or any card to an empty column).
• Moving a stack: You can move a consecutive alternating-color sequence if you have enough free cells and empty columns. The maximum stack size you can move is (free cells empty + 1) × 2^(empty columns).

FreeCell Scoring

• Each card moved to foundation: +1 point
• Goal: fill all 4 foundations (52 points maximum)

Tips & Strategy

• Plan your free cell usage carefully — filling all 4 free cells limits your options significantly.
• Try to keep at least one free cell empty and one empty column open at all times.
• Move Aces and 2s to the foundation as soon as possible.
• When moving a large stack, count your available free cells and empty columns first.
• Use the Undo button liberally — FreeCell rewards planning and backtracking.
