Pass three cards to an opponent each round, then play tricks. Each Heart scores 1 point and the Queen of Spades scores 13 points. The player with the lowest score when someone reaches 100 points wins. But beware — if you can take all penalty cards, you "Shoot the Moon" and everyone else scores 26 points!

How to Play Hearts

• Each player receives 13 cards. Before play, pass 3 cards to an opponent (direction rotates each round).
• The player holding the 2 of Clubs leads the first trick.
• Players must follow the lead suit if possible. If not, they may play any card.
• Hearts may not be led until a Heart has been "broken" (played on a previous trick).
• Take all 13 Hearts and the Queen of Spades to Shoot the Moon — all other players score 26 points.
• The game ends when any player reaches 100 points. The player with the lowest score wins.

Tips & Strategy

• Pass your highest-penalty cards (Queen of Spades, high Hearts) to the left in round 1.
• Keep Spades to protect yourself from receiving the Queen of Spades.
• Track which Hearts have been played — if you hold high Hearts late in the game, play them early.
• If you plan to Shoot the Moon, take every trick early and commit fully — a partial attempt is costly.
• Watch your opponents' plays to deduce what suits they're void in.
