The player’s handbook

How to play Spades

Partners sit opposite. Each player receives thirteen cards and bids zero to thirteen tricks. A zero bid is nil: taking no tricks earns one hundred, but taking any loses one hundred.

Follow suit if possible. Spades trump other suits, and cannot be led until broken unless you hold only spades. The highest trump, or highest card of the led suit, wins.

Make the combined non-nil bid for ten points per bid trick plus one per overtrick. Miss it and lose ten per bid trick. Ten accumulated overtricks cost one hundred. Nil tricks do not fulfill the partnership bid.

Reach five hundred to win, or lose at minus two hundred. A tied winning score needs another hand.

Rules reference

Good cards. Great company.

Your table

Leaving an active game gives your seat to a computer. An offline player has two minutes to reconnect before another player can replace their seat.
